Can I Call You?

Final installation

Can I Call You? is an exploration of interacting with data and understading my phone usage better. Tasked with tracking something in my life over a period of time, I decided to dive deeper into how often I talk to people on the phone. Turns out, I had 145 phone calls in the month of February.

I started this project by creating a spreadsheet that focused on who I was calling, when I was calling them, where I was calling them from, and why I was calling. Once I was able to see all of the information set out, I figured out how I wanted to showcase my data.

Large poster

The large poster looks at it in a more data-forward way, grouping my calls into locations and showing extra data about each call. There are also personal annotations focusing on phone calls that I felt were particularly important to highlight.

Risograph prints

For my risograph prints, I opted for a more artistic feeling and chose to highlight 9 phone calls that I thought were interesting from the month. Each spot color is related to a color on the large poster, so that the calls can be linked quickly.

This project manifested itself as a large 34”x52” poster and nine separate 11”x17” risograph prints. It was installed on the 4th floor of 808 Commonwealth Avenue from March 3 through March 23 in 2026.
